Ok, just got it yesterday.
First impression:
1) Backgrounds: photo realistic
2) Sound: MP3 or better
3) Lighting: great
4) Combat: PC game trying to be a console
5) Quests: kill shit, and thin
6) UI: part are great others are WHERE THE FUCK IS XXXX
7) Chat: SMALL GREY AND WOW HATERS/FAILURES
NPC's low res blocky cinematics
9) Even my gaming rigd required patches and then tuning to run. Prior to patches, I swore I heard my PC groan. After patching and tunigng only hung once or twice.
Overall: SIMS with Swords. WoW killer: no way. Worth it: 7 out of 10 |

i've had no problems. only 2 crashes since release, which blows away any other mmorpg release to date. it took no work to get running, but then i was running the prefered nvidia graphics card. combat is much more involving than combat in WOW, especially as an assassin with all of the combo moves. combat as a spell caster is similar to wow in that you spend a lot of time spamming one or two buttons over and over. quests are a bit repetitive, but you don't really have to spend any time grinding to get levels, the quests give you the needed xp. there is a spot in the high 30s and hi 50s where quests are in short supply, otherwise there are plenty to level up. like any new mmorpg the content is still a little bit thin, they did a better job than LOTR did for initial content about the same as WOW at launch, although they do have a working PVP system which puts them one up on WOW for initial content. crafting had some major bugs that made it unworkable initially, most of those bugs are fixed at this point though. i'm still a bit unsure if crafting is worth it as i don't really see any crafted gear being better than quest rewards and dropped loot. that will probably change as more content gets added, but for the moment crafting is definatly not a must do. OOC chat in the initial zones sucks. turn it off. but then i turn it off in all mmorpgs as the lowest common denominator typically dominates all conversation in OOC chat channels. i don't use the base UI, but have switched to a combination of custom UI ingrediants that work better for my play style.
if anyone plays, i'm on the Dagoth server with an assassin named Hassell in the Ravenous guild. |
